Give Leverage to your Liver:
10 Food habits to adopt for good
Liver Health

Healthy food habits for disease prevention
  • Liver is the engine of your body. It helps power your body by converting food that you eat into glucose that can be burnt as fuel. It also stores and releases energy as per your body’s needs. It also cleans your body of toxins. Good Liver health is vital to an individual’s wellness and one of the most effective ways in which you can help keep your liver healthy is to incorporate good eating habits. And while there is no specific “liver health diet”, irrespective of what so many marketers might tell you, there are few guidelines that you can follow to ensure a good lever health.

    Food-Habits-2

    Food Habits

1Moderate your consumption of saturated fats, as high intake of fatty foods has been associated with an increased risk for developing a fatty liver.

2Reduce Sugar: Sugar in any form (processed/non processed) is not good for your liver. Sugar intake creates extra work for your liver health to convert sugar into fat. And excess intake of sugar leads to fatty liver.  This includes processed sugar and even honey and jaggery. Don’t get misled by marketing gimmicks.

3Switch to Black Coffee or Green Tea: Studies have shown that drinking moderate amounts of coffee has positive benefits for your liver. However, for optimal benefits it’s important that you have coffee without milk or sugar. Green Tea has also been shown to have some positive impact on cancer as well.

4Eat Non-Processed Foods: Regularly choose a variety of whole foods including fruits and vegetables, protein sources (legumes, lean meats), whole grains (quinoa, wild rice), dairy (low-fat yogurt, milk and cheese) and sources of healthy fat (nuts like almonds, fatty fish).

5Increase your intake of fresh of fruits and vegetables, especially brightly coloured ones with deep bright pigments such as oranges, yellows, reds and greens as these tend to be richest in vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants which help keep the liver healthy.

    6. Drink enough water: Liver is the organ in charge of flushing out toxins from your body. And water is the medium through which it does its work. Therefore, drinking enough water daily is a must. We recommend drinking at least 3 litres of water daily.

7Thoroughly Wash fruit and vegetables right before use to remove pesticides. This is a very important step to reduce the risk of ingesting toxins.

8.Avoid Alcohol: Alcohol consumption is never good for your liver. When liver processes alcohol, as it does anything you eat and drink, one of the by products of the process is a chemical called acetaldehyde. This chemical is very harmful and kills your liver cells.

9Avoid unsupervised supplement consumption: Supplement consumption has become a leading source of liver health issues. Supplements may not be bad for you, but taken without medical supervision they can overload your liver health. Always take medical opinion before you start a supplement routine.

10Wash your hands: This is an age-old advice and yet one of the most effective. Eating without properly washing your hand can lead to ingestion of potentially harmful toxins and bacteria.

There is no getting around one simple fact that anything you eat or drink impacts your liver health. And if you want a healthy Liver you have to start with being careful about your nutrition. Your Liver is a wondrous organ which performs hundreds of different functions in your body. By eating healthy and taking simple precautions you give leverage to your Liver.
